It will be interesting to see how Arne Slot truly feels about Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to Chelsea, considering the Reds were only recently crowned the Premier League champions.
Ibrahima Konate danced after Liverpool lost to Chelsea and the Frenchman’s mood was reflective of the fact that the players within the dressing room are still over the moon about winning the title.
But as the manager, Arne Slot might not be as seemingly carefree as Konate was as he will know that standing still is a cardinal sin in football.
Slot’s team selection against Chelsea was reflective of the fact that he wished to see how his fringe players perform when given a start in a big game.
Harvey Elliott did not impress against Chelsea and the same can be said about Kostas Tsimikas’ display away at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool should sell Kostas Tsimikas after he fails to impress vs Chelsea
In a way, one could argue that Kostas Tsimikas was one of the main culprits behind Liverpool’s loss to Chelsea.
For Enzo Fernandez’s opening goal, Pedro Neto weaved past Tsimikas far too easily before setting his Chelsea teammate’s opener up against Liverpool.
While Jarrell Quansah’s own goal was ultimately down to the Englishman simply being in the way of Virgil van Dijk’s clearance, Cole Palmer turned the £11.75 million (Sky Sports) man in the lead-up.
Tsimikas has failed to impress at Liverpool this season and the stats back up how much he struggled against Chelsea as well.
KOSTAS TSIMIKAS STATS VS CHELSEA | |
DRIBBLED PAST | 1 |
DUELS WON | 2/6 |
ACCURATE PASSES | 50/57 (88%) |
TACKLES WON | 1/2 |
Arne Slot has praised Tsimikas but if given a choice to keep either him or Andy Robertson, the latter should be the automatic choice for his experience, winning mentality and leadership in the dressing room.
Robertson’s affable personality at Liverpool also makes him a player that could contribute in ways off the pitch that are key to keeping the Reds a harmonious bunch behind the scenes.
Arne Slot ready to sign one Kostas Tsimikas replacement
If Tsimikas’ outing against Chelsea is one of his final ones as a Liverpool player, the question is who the Reds would sign to replace the Greek international.
Arne Slot would like to sign Milos Kerkez to bolster his squad in the summer.
Antonee Robinson is liked by Liverpool as well and he could prove to one hell of a signing as well.
Ultimately, regardless of Tsimikas’ underwhelming performance against Enzo Maresca’s side, the fact of the matter is that he is yet to prove to be a worthy heir to Andy Robertson’s throne — which is why he should be deemed surplus to requirements.
