In his first year, Vincent Kompany has brought Bundesliga glory back to Bayern Munich.

On a rainy Saturday in Leipzig, Bayern Munich rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit to take a 3-2 lead into stoppage time. In the dying moments of the match, Yussuf Poulsen chipped Jonas Urbig to ruin the celebration. With the draw, Bayern essentially bagged the title with a nine-point lead and a plus-30 goal differential margin, but delayed celebrations until it was made official.

It was a cruel fate for Bayern but a fate that was rectified today. Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-2 draw at Freiburg officially conceded the title. Bayern gathered at the Käfer restaurant to watch the match together.

This year’s title is significant for a variety of Bayern players:

  • For the English players on the squad, Harry Kane and Eric Dier, their first career trophy is long overdue
  • Thomas Müller extends his record to 13 Bundesliga titles
  • After spending last season on loan at Leverkusen, Josip Stanišić becomes the leading streak holder with two consecutive Meisterschalen

Bayern Munich traveled to RB Leipzig and earned a tough 3-3 draw in a match that will not leave either side satisfied. Bayern Munich needed the win to clinch the title, while RB Leipzig needed three points to help keep its European hopes alive.

The Bavarians fell behind, then fought all the way back to take the led…and collapsed in an utterly deflating fashion. What a mess…

Let’s talk about all of that and more on the Bavarian Podcast Work — Postgame Show. This is what we have on tap:

  • A look at the starting XI and our thoughts on the patchwork lineup. Injuries and a suspension to Harry Kane were obstacles.
  • A rundown of the scoring and substitutions.
  • Some final thoughts and takeaways on the match.
