Having held Barcelona to a stunning draw in last week’s first leg, Inter Milan will welcome the Spanish giants to San Siro on Tuesday, as the pair conclude their Champions League semi-final.
Barring an unexpected late twist, Inter will be without their captain and main marksman Lautaro Martinez, who has been given all but no chance of recovering from a hamstring injury sustained at Montjuic.
So, with Joaquin Correa left off the Nerazzurri’s UEFA squad list, either Mehdi Taremi or Marko Arnautovic should support first-leg scorer Marcus Thuram up front.
The latter has notched 14 league goals this season – a new career best – but neither of his potential partners have been able to find their top form.
Thuram’s French compatriot Benjamin Pavard sprained an ankle against Roma last month, so Yann Bisseck is set to continue in the hosts back three, alongside Italy internationals Alessandro Bastoni and Francesco Acerbi – both of whom were among several men rested by Simone Inzaghi at the weekend.
Hakan Calhanoglu also had Saturday off – in his case, due to a domestic suspension – but he will return to join Nicolo Barella and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in midfield.
Following a rare chance for Josep Martinez to impress, first-choice goalkeeper Yann Sommer – who was unfortunate to score an own goal last week – also comes back in.
Meanwhile, regular wing-backs Federico Dimarco and Denzel Dumfries – the latter of whom bagged a brace in Barcelona – resume their roles on either flank.
Inter Milan possible starting lineup: Sommer; Bisseck, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Arnautovic, Thuram
