Not winning against the Cans is annoying.
Bayern Munich’s 3-3 draw with Rasenballsport Leipzig left the team and the fans in a very strange position. Logically, there is little chance that Bayer Leverkusen can make up the 9 point difference, as well as the 30 goal difference, in the remaining games of the season. But a little chance is still a chance, which is why Bayern’s vice captain Thomas Müller spoke about the ‘in-between’ feeling of probably being the champion but not having it confirmed just yet.
Goalkeeper Jonas Urbig, standing in for captain Manuel Neuer, has perhaps a fraction of the experience Müller has, so when he was asked by a reporter after the match what he thought of Müller’s comments, he was hardly inclined to disagree: “I won’t contradict Thomas. We’re not officially champions, we’ll try to finish the job next week,” the former FC Köln goalkeeper said, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “It doesn’t matter whether we win it tomorrow [if Leverkusen drop points] or next week against [Borussia Mönchengladbach]. Of course it’s bitter that we conceded a late equalizer, we didn’t clear the ball well at the end of the game. It’s bitter.”
That bitterness will linger until next week, where the match against Die Fohlen will give Bayern their second chance to seal the Bundesliga title.
