Mohamed Salah has been one of the most important players for Liverpool, and played a massive role in helping the club to their 20th League title.
Since joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah has consistently delivered exceptional performances, consistently racking up an impressive 244 goals and 113 assists in 397 games across all competitions.
However, under Arne Slot, Salah has been in Ballon d’Or winning form, scoring 28 goals and assisting 18 in the league and 33 goals and 23 assists across all competitions.
But it was not just his goalscoring ability that caught Slot’s attention when he first met him.
Arne Slot on what impressed him the most about Mohamed Salah
The Dutch manager has now revealed what impressed him the most about Salah when he first arrived at the club.
Sitting down with Sky Sports for an in-depth interview following the Premeir League triumph, Slot has stated that it was the fact that Salah was in at training already and that he finished first in the running test that impressed him the most.
“Mo was already there on the first day because he didn’t have a tournament (international) and that impressed me from the start because we did a test, a running test, and he was number one.
“You hope for this that that one of your star players has that mentality to show up on the first training and be the fittest one.”
How Mohamed Salah changed his game under Arne Slot
Salah, who just extended his contract with Liverpool, joined the Merseyside club from AS Roma and quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s best players.
Under Jurgen Klopp, he was outstanding, though his role often required significant defensive contributions, including tracking back.
After beating Tottenham 5-1 last Sunday, Salah explained how Slot has tweaked his role which has helped him produce his best-ever numbers in a Liverpool shirt.
Competition | Games | Goals | Assists |
Premier League | 34 | 28 | 18 |
UEFA Champions League | 9 | 3 | 4 |
League Cup | 5 | 2 | 1 |
Total | 48 | 33 | 23 |
He told Sky Sports: “You can see the numbers. Now I don’t have to defend much. The tactics are quite different. I said ‘as long as you rest me defensively I will provide offensively’, so I am glad that I did. He listened a lot and you can see the numbers.
“When you play in the Premier League you have to defend but I said that I can gamble and somehow I can make a difference. My number of assists shows that, you can create chances as well.”
