‘Hopefully he comes’: Julian Alvarez tells £42m player to leave Tottenham this summer

3 Min Read

Julian Alvarez has just told one of Tottenham Hotspur’s top players to leave North London this summer and join him at Atletico Madrid.

Alvarez arrived in the Spanish capital last summer after leaving Manchester City in a deal worth around £82 million.

The striker has netted 27 goals in 51 appearances for the Spanish giants this term and has been quick to settle into life in Madrid.

The former Man City man is now keen for another Premier League player to make the switch and join him at the Metropolitano Stadium.

Julian Alvarez urges Cristian Romero to join Atletico Madrid

Julian Alvarez has urged Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero to make the switch to Atletico Madrid this summer.

Romero is linked with Atletico Madrid with Diego Simeone making the defender one of his top transfer targets.

Tottenham value Romero at around £64m, although that asking price could drop given the 27-year-old’s desire to leave.

Alvarez claims that Atletico is more of a family vibe compared to most Premier League clubs and is similar to the Argentinian national team.

Alvarez told Diario AS: “Hopefully Cuti Romero comes, he would help us. Atleti is a family, it’s more similar to Argentina than the Premier League.”

Cristian Romero looks destined to leave Tottenham

The £42m defender’s future at Tottenham looks very much in doubt at this stage and Atletico seem to be cranking up the pressure to make a deal happen.

Alavrez is just one of several Argentine players at the Rojiblancos, which also includes Rodrigo de Paul, Giulian Simeone, Angel Correa and Nahuel Molina – all of whom Romero will know well.

Despite Romero remaining ill-disciplined at times, he is such an important player for the Lilywhites, as shown in the Europa League matches this campaign.

However, Spurs try to dress it up, losing Romero this summer will be a major blow for the club and replacing him will be tricky.
