Liverpool have a lot of work to do in the summer transfer window.
The Reds have been the best team in the Premier League this season and have deservedly been crowned the champions. Arne Slot deserves all the praise in the world.
But, the Dutchman will know that he will have to strengthen his side this summer to have any chance of retaining the title next season.
Liverpool could do with new signings in numerous positions on the pitch, and David Ornstein has now had his say on one player who the Reds could consider recruiting.
David Ornstein shares Jeremie Frimpomg to Liverpool update
Trent Alexander-Arnold announced his Liverpool exit on Monday after two decades at the club.
The Englishman has been one of the Reds’ best players over the years, but it had been clear for a while now that he would be leaving at the end of his contract.
Slot has the likes of Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez at his disposal, but losing a player of Alexander-Arnold’s quality may force them to dive into the market for a replacement.
A number of right-backs have been linked with Liverpool, like Jeremie Frimpong.
The Bayer Leverkusen star is among the most exciting players in his position in the world. He has been brilliant in Germany, and it’s only a matter of time before he leaves for a bigger club.
Liverpool have had an eye on Frimpong for quite some time now, and Ornstein has revealed that he would be open to signing for the Reds if they made an offer this summer.
The journalist said on NBC Sports: “If they went for something different, something more multi-faceted, there are players potentially on the market like a Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen.
“He has a €35 million (£30m) release clause, something in the region of that, as I understand it. I also believe that he would be keen on a move to Liverpool, if they decide to go down that route.
“They will have other options as well, but Frimpong has been mentioned in a number of reports so far.”
Jeremie Frimpong’s attacking numbers prove he’s the perfect Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement
Trent Alexander-Arnold, in a way, is irreplaceable.
The Englishman is such a unique player at right-back. His ability on the ball is almost unmatched, and Liverpool will definitely miss his attacking output.
Frimpong doesn’t possess Alexander-Arnold’s passing range, but his numbers over the last three seasons show that he is more than capable of replacing the Liverpool number 66.
Games | Goals | Assists | |
Jeremie Frimpong in 2022/23 | 48 | 9 | 11 |
Jeremie Frimpong in 2023/24 | 47 | 14 | 12 |
Jeremie Frimpong in 2024/25 | 47 | 4 | 12 |
27 goals and 35 assists in three seasons for a wing-back is a fantastic return, and it is no surprise that Liverpool are keeping an eye on Frimpong, who has been hailed as an ‘attacking powerhouse’ by the Bundesliga’s official website.
At around £30 million, he would be an absolute bargain for the Reds this summer.
However, whether Slot will make a move for a new defender instead of sticking with Bradley and Gomez remains to be seen.
