With Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving this summer, Liverpool has a big decision to make on how to replace one of its key players – and Jeremie Frimpong may have already given the Reds some encouragement on that front.
Alexander-Arnold has now confirmed his decision to leave Anfield once his contract expires at the end of the season, bringing an end to his 20-year association with the club. A move to Real Madrid hasn’t yet been announced, although it looks to just be a matter of time now.
Although the 26-year-old’s departure has seemed inevitable for some time now, it still comes as a big blow to Liverpool. Arne Slot and Richard Hughes now face a huge decision on the best way forward for the Reds to replace him.
Conor Bradley does seem to be the obvious choice as a long-term option, although there are question marks over his injury record since he made his breakthrough last season.
Liverpool may therefore have to look to the transfer window to find a solution, with Frimpong potentially providing it. As Liverpool.com has already reported, the club is interested in the Bayer Leverkusen star, who looks likely to be on the move this summer.
Any sort of offer for the Netherlands international was understood to depend on Alexander-Arnold leaving, and with that now confirmed, the path may be clear for Liverpool to make its move – albeit with the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Chelsea also said to be interested.

It’s understood that Frimpong’s future will be dependent on the market, which opportunities arise and which clubs consider right-back a priority position. Whether Liverpool sees it as such will likely be based on what sort of role Bradley will have under Slot.
Frimpong though has already addressed the possibility of a move to Anfield, and the good news for the Reds is that he seems keen.
Asked what he thought about joining Liverpool by Ziggo Sport last year, Frimpong responded: “A great club, with history. That would be great. Who knows what the future will bring?”

And that’s not the only time Frimpong has shown a soft spot for Liverpool. In fact, had his early career turned out differently, he might have actually started out at Anfield, rather than one of the Reds’ rivals.
“I was playing striker and scored a hat-trick in a final, I won player of the tournament,” Frimpong told Rising Ballers earlier this year. “There were scouts there like Liverpool, Bolton, Man City and a lot more.
“But I chose Liverpool first. I was going to sign for them but back then, driving wasn’t a thing, my family wasn’t driving like that and it was far.
“And obviously, Man City was local so I tried Man City next and it made more sense. It was 15 minutes on the bus, so yeah.”
