Newcastle United, Aston Villa ‘join eight-club race’ for £38m Premier League attacker

Newcastle United and Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Leicester City star Bilal El Khannous.

The 20-year-old made the switch from Belgian club Genk to the King Power Stadium last summer ahead of the 2024-25 top-flight campaign in England.

El Khannous has been a shining light for struggling Leicester this term, contributing positively to the side, including an assist during the 2-0 win over Southampton on the weekend.

Across the span of 30 top-flight appearances – with 25 of those arriving as starts – the Moroccan has scored twice and provided three assists for teammates.

Despite El Khannous’s best efforts, the Foxes have already been confirmed as a Championship club for next season, sitting 19th in the Premier League table with three games remaining.

Newcastle, Aston Villa considering El Khannous move?

According to Caught Offside, Leicester are expecting to lose the talent of El Khannous this summer as the club prepare for life in the second tier.

The report claims that Europe chasers Newcastle United and Aston Villa are considering moves for the talented 20-year-old during the upcoming transfer window.

It is understood that El Khannous has also caught the eye of other Premier League clubs, with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham keen on the attacker.

There is also supposedly interest from across the continent, with RB Leipzig, Napoli, Atalanta BC and Lazio targeting deals for the youngster.

Despite respectable interest from over the English Channel, it is believed that El Khannous is currently favouring a Premier League switch this summer.

Where should El Khannous go?

After excelling for a side struggling at the foot of the Premier League, El Khannous will fancy his chances of fitting into an established team in the division.

Villa and Newcastle would offer the young Moroccan a chance to compete near the top of the league, whilst also earning game time in European competition.

There is an argument for El Khannous moving to RB Leipzig, where they have gained a reputation for creating and nurturing top attacking talents.
