Arsenal will have been closely following the Champions League semi-final between Inter Milan and FC Barcelona on Tuesday evening and they should be considering signing one of the best performers from the tie.
Andrea Berta has been tasked with signing Arsenal a striker, with the Gunners’ lack of firepower up front costing them in the race for the Premier League title.
Mikel Arteta has made the arrival of a number nine a top priority in the summer and Arsenal have been targeting Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak.
But given the uncertainty around Gyokeres perofming in the Premier League and Isak’s price tag, the North London club should be looking elsewhere in their pursit of a centre-forward.
Arsenal should be targeting Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram
Arsenal should have been watching Marcus Thuram’s display against Barcelona across both semi-final legs and be starting to pester Thierry Henry to pull some strings to get the Frenchman to the Emirates
The 27-year-old is not a striker who gets mentioned very much in the conversation of elite strikers around Europe, despite his performances more than deserving of such credit.
Thuram, who’s been compared to Henry, scored an audacious goal against the Spanish giants in the first leg as his flick in the opening minute of the match was the first of 13 goals in the tie.
The striker has now taken his tally to 18 goals for the season and his performances have Inter competing for a historic Serie A and Champions League double.
The French international is very close to Henry with his father, Lillian, having won the World Cup in 1998 alongside the legendary Arsenal striker.
Speaking at the end of last season after winning the Italian title, Thuram said: “I would like to thank Thierry Henry for all the advice he gave me. Sometimes I talk more to him than to my dad.
“He’s the best uncle I have. He’s always been there for me: in good times and bad. Today I would like to thank him. If I’m here, it’s thanks to him.”
Arsenal have been to watch Thuram this season and should use their strong connections with Henry to make their move for the forward.
Marcus Thuram’s brilliant performance against Barcelona
Thuram, who has a £71m release clause, didn’t get his goal in the second-leg at the San Siro, however, he did work tirelessly up top to help the team.
It was his brilliant work in extra time which created Davide Frattesi’s winning goal as he jinked his way through Barcelona’s defence
