For a long time, it seemed that Leroy Sané would renew his contract at Bayern Munich. With his current deal expiring this summer, the Germany international has had to fight for a new offer but it seemed as if a renewal was on the cards. Bild even reported that an agreement was done.
And then Sané threw everything into turmoil by changing his agency and demanding new terms. Now, Bayern need to face the reality that the former Schalke 04 winger might not be at the club next season. When Sport1 asked sporting director Christoph Freund whether or not the club is prepared for the player’s exit, however, Freund left little doubt about the answer:
“Yes, absolutely. We’re always scouting and exploring the market,” Freund stated, via @iMiaSanMia. “If a new situation arises, we would have to work on it intensively.”
BFW Analysis
Such a statement tells us is interesting. On one hand, Freund would likely not be frankly addressing the possibility of Sané leaving if it were not very possible. On the other, he acknowledges that it is not a situation…yet. A departure is also far from confirmed. As of now, it is very possible for things to go either way.
