Absence makes the heart grow fonder, in the case of the silverware at least.
Last season marked Bayern Munich’s first trophyless season since the club’s infamous treble failure in the 2011/12 season, finishing runners up in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League.
Off the back of the disappointing season, Bayern were fighting an uphill battle from day one, squaring up against Bayer Leverkusen, their most formidable rival in over a decade with Vincent Kompany, a brand new and fairly inexperienced coach.
Despite the odds, rarely, being out of Die Rekordmeister’s favour, Bayern did what they do best and secured yet another Bundesliga title.
Club captain, Manuel Neuer, for one believes last season’s lack of silverware made this years title victory that much more special. “This title is more special because we didn’t win it last year after a long streak. A trophyless season is always tough, so the motivation was there from the start of this season,” said the German shot-stopper (via @iMiaSanMia). “This title speaks for the fact we are a good team and we grew closer together – so it’s special. Every player and staff member has had a contribution, so we can enjoy the celebrations now.”
Sometimes it’s important for champions to remember what it feels like to lose once in a while. After last season, Bayern got their taste of defeat, and as a result, developed a renewed appetite for victory. Now, as 2024/25 Bundesliga champions, Die Roten can enjoy what it feels like to be winners once more.
Let’s celebrate Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga championship and talk about what it means for several key members of the squad like Harry Kane, Eric Dier, and…Thomas Müller. Let’s also chat about late drama with Leroy Sané’s contract extension, Serge Gnabry potentially taking over for Harry Kane, and Kingsley Coman possibly wanting to stay in Bavaria as well.
