Exclusive: ‘Outstanding’ manager Spurs want to replace Postecoglou has just rejected a new contract at his club

Tottenham have already earmarked several managers amid doubts over Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian could still bring the UEFA Europa League back to N17 and salvage this terrible season – which has Spurs sitting 16th in the Premier League.

Winning that competition would also secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League.

However, 19 defeats from 35 league games could still cost Ange Postecoglou his job regardless of what happens in Europe.

TBR Football understand Spurs like Thomas Frank of Brentford as replacements are considered, while Tottenham approached Oliver Glasner to enquire about his situation at Crystal Palace.

The north Londoners also admire Marco Silva of Fulham – and there has now been a development involving the Portuguese coach.

Marco Silva rejects Fulham contract

Graeme Bailey – Chief Correspondent at TBR Football – has now been informed that the man from Lisbon has rejected the offer of a new contract at Craven Cottage.

We understand Fulham hoped to fend off Tottenham by agreeing a new deal with Silva – who is approaching the final 12 months of his deal in west London.

However, we can now confirm the 47-year-old has turned down a new deal with the Cottagers.

There is interest in Silva from Saudi Arabia as well as Tottenham, with Al Hilal hopeful of hiring the former Everton manager, and sources inform TBR Football that his release clause is considerably lower for clubs outside of the Premier League.

Silva – who Postecoglou called “outstanding” – has done a tremendous job this season, with Fulham still in contention for European qualification after 14 wins and nine draws from 35 Premier League outings, which has them sitting ninth.

What Marco Silva has said about his future

The Fulham boss is keeping his cards close to his chest as he approaches the final year of his contract.

When asked about his future at the end of last month, Silva said: “My head is at Fulham. We don’t control everything that happens around us. It’s not part of me.

“With such important games week after week, our total focus is here and we control what we can, which is preparing the players for the next games.”

With a spot in the UEFA Europa League next season still up for grabs, that is an understandable outlook from Silva – although it remains to be seen what happens once the 2024/25 campaign is over.
