TBR Football understands that Tottenham have opened talks with Mathys Tel’s representatives and are indicating they would like him to stay.
Mathys Tel has enjoyed his time in London, he is settled very well and Spurs have been impressed enough to look ahead to a permanent deal.
The Frenchman’s form has picked up over recent weeks with three goal contributions in his last five Premier League appearances.
The 20-year-old could play a key role in helping the Lilywhites end their hunt for silverware as they prepare to face Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League semi-final on Thursday.
Tottenham plan to renegotiate buy option for Mathys Tel
Tottenham Hotspur did include a buy-option for Tel when they agreed terms with Bayern Munich worth around £45 million, but they are hoping to re-negotiate this, sources have told TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.
Spurs agreed to pay £50m for Tel in January, only for the deal to fall through, before it was eventually resurrected on new terms.
Now, the North London club will attempt to sign the promising youngster on even more favourable terms by attempting to reduce the £45m fee.
The French youth international has shown much promise but £45m would be a hefty fee for a player who is still quite a raw talent. Reports have suggested that Tottenham want to pay around £30m for Tel.
James Maddison believes Tel has been ‘very good’ since being at Tottenham and claims the North London club should look to make the deal permanent.
Bayern Munich keen to sell Mathys Tel
Bayern Munich are believed to be open to a deal to sell the forward if Tel indicates his willingness to join Tottenham permanently.
Champions League qualification could play a part in convincing Tel to stay long term which could be achieved through winning the Europa League.
Bayern, for their part, are trying to put together a deal for Florian Wirtz and that does mean some sales will be required. Tel is one of those they are looking to move on.
