Liverpool have a big summer transfer window ahead of them.
Indeed, the Reds may be Premier League champions, but they do have a few issues that they need to address this summer.
Darwin Nunez is set to leave Liverpool, so the Reds may need a new striker – Alexander Isak is a target.
Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold has now admitted he’s leaving Liverpool, so the Reds may need a new right-back.
Jeremie Frimpong has been strongly linked with Liverpool. In fact, some have suggested that Frimpong has agreed to join Liverpool.
However, speaking to Sports Mole, David Lynch has been discussing Liverpool’s links to the £30m man, and he says that he’s sceptical about these links, suggesting that the Reds aren’t so keen on the Dutchman.
Liverpool may not be keen on Jeremie Frimpong
Lynch shared how he sees the Frimpong situation at the moment.
According to the journalist, Liverpool may not be that interested in Frimpong, noting that Conor Bradley is the player Liverpool may look towards instead.
Bradley has been tipped for big things next season, so signing Frimpong may not be needed.
“With the Frimpong thing, I saw what David Ornstein wrote where he said he’d be on the market for fairly cheap and he’d jump at the chance to join Liverpool,” Lynch said.
“That doesn’t mean that Liverpool are interested at all. He’s a right wing-back, he’s not a right-back at all. When you have someone like Conor Bradley who can nail down that shirt, will Frimpong want to come and be the backup to that? I’m sceptical about those links.”
Jeremie Frimpong record at right-back
As Lynch says, Frimpong is more of a wing-back these days, but he has played as a right-back in the past.
Indeed, the Dutchman has played as a right-back on no fewer than 126 occasions, while he’s remained a decent attacking threat from full-back in that time, albeit, not as much as at wing-back
Jeremie Frimpong at right-back | Jeremie Frimpong at wing-back | |
126 | Games | 137 |
6 | Goals | 25 |
20 | Assists | 35 |
Of course, being a right-back is about a lot more than attacking output, as Liverpool know only too well.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has often been criticised for his defensive ability, and Liverpool may want a bit more defensive steel in the team as they pivot away from the England international.
As the old saying goes, there’s no smoke without fire, so Liverpool may end up going for Frimpong, but, whether or not this deal actually gets done remains to be seen.
