What Arne Slot could be hoping for is that despite ultimately winning the Premier League title, Liverpool do not have as quiet a summer as they did before the start of this season.
Federico Chiesa could already leave Liverpool which goes to show that even the one signing the Reds made last summer turned out to be an unsuccessful one — which has perhaps served as a wake-up call to Liverpool to up their game in the summer transfer window at the end of the campaign.
Thankfully for Arne Slot, Liverpool have big plans for the summer and do not seem just content with the fact that they have won the title.
Richard Hughes will be aware that the Premier League champions’ squad is still far from perfect — which explains why Liverpool are interested in signing Milos Kerkez.
However, apart from Kerkez, there are plenty of brilliant left-backs across Europe who Liverpool could target — with Antonee Robinson appreciated at Anfield and Theo Hernandez potentially on the move.
Ibrahima Konate should recommend Liverpool to sign Theo Hernandez
Theo Hernandez’s future at AC Milan is uncertain and Ibrahima Konate, who has played with the former Real Madrid left-back for France should suggest Liverpool to sign him.
Andy Robertson’s form has declined (31) and he has been Liverpool’s biggest weak link this season and in Hernandez (27), they could sign a four-year younger upgrade on him if they decide to make a move.
As far as attacking full-backs go, there are not many superior to Hernandez, who has amassed an impressive 34 goals and 45 assists for AC Milan in 260 appearances.
Even if Liverpool decide to keep Andy Robertson this summer, the French international would be the perfect long-term replacement for the Scot because he possesses a similar profile — as he also has an incredible engine on him, a wand of a left foot and is a traditional left-back.
With the Marseille-born defender having a wealth of experience under his belt at both domestic and international level, the pressure of playing for a club of the Reds’ stature is unlikely to faze him as well.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is irreplaceable but in Hernandez, Liverpool could be bringing in a left-back who is similarly productive while also fitting Arne Slot’s system to a tee — something Konate would know very well having played 15 times with his countryman for the French national team.
The only question marks about the AC Milan star are defensively and while he can be prone to the odd mistake, the Frenchman’s searing pace often bails him out and his presence can allow Slot to play a high line and pin teams back.
Premier League clubs keeping tabs on Theo Hernandez
Kostas Tsimikas could leave Liverpool and in that case as well, Liverpool will need to sign a new left-back and there are not many better across European football than Hernandez.
However, the only worry for Arne Slot could be that there is interest within the Premier League in the UEFA Nations League winner.
AC Milan’s Hernandez interests Tottenham and Chelsea.
Enzo Maresca’s side have already made contact with the player’s camp to sign him.
As for Spurs, they are merely keeping tabs on Hernandez’s future and he could be available for just £30 million this summer.
For the asking price and the highly-acclaimed full-back’s quality, Liverpool should join the race after asking Ibrahima Konate how highly he rates him.
