Report: People inside Tottenham think there’s now a ‘serious possibility’ that ‘scary’ striker will join them

Tottenham Hotspur need to have a big summer transfer window.

Spurs are in with a chance of winning the Europa League. If that happens, the way people will look at their season will change, but nobody should forget how poor they have been in the Premier League.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are 16th in the table, and that is not good enough. They need to strengthen their squad in the summer, irrespective of whether they win the Europa League or not.

A number of players have been linked with a move to Tottenham, and insiders at the club feel they have a great chance of signing a hugely talented striker who is wanted by several clubs in the country.

Tottenham think Liam Delap transfer is a ‘serious possibility’

Liam Delap is a wanted man.

The Englishman has had a terrific season at Ipswich Town. He was their star man, even though they suffered relegation from the Premier League.

Delap is almost certain to be on the move this summer, and the Tractor Boys going down means his £30 million release clause has become active.

TBR Football revealed in April that Tottenham had sent scouts to watch Delap at Portman Road, and he scored against Wolves in that game.

Now, GiveMeSport have claimed that Spurs are ‘planning to make an offer’ to sign the striker, and there is ‘confidence behind the scenes that there is a serious possibility that they will secure his services’.

That is despite interest in Delap from other Premier League clubs like Manchester United, West Ham, Chelsea and Everton among others.

It has further been claimed that Tottenham view Delap as a bargain option this summer, and the feeling within the recruitment team is that it would be an ‘oversight’ if they didn’t try to bring him in.

Liam Delap’s wage demands

Ipswich Town only gained promotion to the Premier League in 2024, so it’s no surprise that their wage bill is not the biggest.

According to Salary Sport, Delap, who is one of their best players, earns just £36,000-a-week.

The Englishman, whose ability and potential have been described as ‘scary’ by Liam Rosenior (BBC), will definitely get a significant increase in wages when he seals a move away from Ipswich this summer, and GMS claim that he is eyeing a big raise.

The report has revealed that Delap ‘is expected to ask for a pay package worth up to £150,000 per week’.

If Spurs agree to pay him that, he will become their fifth-highest-paid player, after skipper Son Heung-min, James Maddison, Cristian Romero, and Timo Werner. The latter is currently on loan.
