Can you name Leeds United’s record appearance-makers?

Leeds United have recently secured their return to the Premier League by edging their way to the Championship title.

Daniel Farke‘s side accumulated 100 points – alongside Burnley – to sit clear of the rest, but the Lilywhites ultimately prevailed on goal difference to add more silverware to their collection.

With an alleged £150m summer budget, new players are expected to arrive at Elland Road, bidding to become legends of the club like some iconic figures of years gone by.

On this day in 2020, Jack Charlton – likely to forever remain as the player with the most-ever appearances for Leeds – passed away at the age of 85.

Charlton’s time at Elland Road will forever be regarded as one of the most notable in their history, his total of 773 appearances made across a senior career spanning more than two decades.

The centre-back spent his entire playing days with the Yorkshire giants, lifting all the major domestic trophies on offer with First and Second Division titles to his name as well as the FA Cup and League Cup.

He would later go onto have a successful managerial career, with almost half of his 646 matches being spent at Middlesbrough, yet it is his time at Leeds – as well as the 1966 World Cup – that will be most fondly remembered when his name enters conversations up and down the country.

To emphasis how far the current crop have to go to achieve anything in the same stratosphere at Leeds, only one of Farke’s squad – Patrick Bamford – was signed prior to 2020.

All but five squad members were signed before 2022, although Sam Byram is someone who started his career at Leeds, leaving in 2016 and returning seven years later.

The defender has a total of 219 appearances under his belt, the most of any player in the current squad, highlighting that the current top 10 are likely to remain in their spots in the history books for decades to come.

With Charlton leading the way, Sports Mole challenges you to name the other nine players who feature in the top 10 of Leeds’ all-time appearance makers.
