‘Dreams come true’: £50m player now appears to bid farewell to his club amid reports he is joining Arsenal

3 Min Read

Arsenal suffered heartbreak in Paris on Wednesday as PSG progressed to the UEFA Champions League final at the expense of the Gunners.

It means Mikel Arteta has now gone five seasons without a trophy at Arsenal – a statistic the Spaniard will be eager to change quickly as the north Londoners risk being labelled nearly men, after always coming close but falling at the final hurdle.

Undoubtedly, reinforcements are needed to achieve silverware, with the current Arsenal squad severely lacking quality depth, specifically in the attacking department – Arteta has been forced to use a midfielder in Mikel Merino at striker after injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.

Martin Zubimendi is one primary target for Andrea Berta – Director of Football at Arsenal – and the Spaniard now appears to have said goodbye to Real Sociedad.

Martin Zubimendi shares interesting interview with Real Sociedad

It was the reliable David Ornstein who revealed on The Athletic that Arsenal expect Zubimendi to join this summer in a £50m deal – the value of his release clause.

Now, the Spain international has given what very much feels like a farewell interview to Real Sociedad.

Reflecting on his time in San Sebastian so far, Zubimendi – who Real Madrid also want – said: “We get used to so many good things happening to me, but sometimes you have to slow down, look back and realise everything you’re experiencing and everything you’ve achieved.

“Luckily, I’ve had the chance to experience many good things with Real Sociedad, many dreams come true. Europa League, Champions League, a title. I couldn’t ask for more.”

El Diario Vasco – a news outlet local to Real Sociedad – also write that it feels like Zubimendi is saying his goodbyes, after 15 years with the club.

Arsenal could take two stars from La Liga

The Real Sociedad No.4 is not the only Spanish player Berta is looking at.

Arsenal adore Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao, and respected journalist Steve Kay has already claimed that the Spain international is expected to move to north London this summer.

Therefore, we could see a strong Basque theme to Arsenal’s recruitment this summer.
