Kevin de Bruyne had already spoken out about the possibility of joining Liverpool amid shock reports that he could move to Anfield this summer.

After a decade at Manchester City, De Bruyne announced in April that the he would leave the club at the end of the season.

Since his departure was announced, several clubs have been linked with a move for De Bruyne, including City’s Premier League rivals Liverpool who are believed to have already presented him with an offer to join in the summer.

In the wake of the news, several clips of De Bruyne talking about Liverpool have resurfaced online, making his views on a potential move to Anfield clear.

During his time with Pep Guardiola’s side, De Bruyne won 16 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League, has cemented himself as one of the Premier League era’s greatest ever players.

But, despite his success with City, it’s no secret that the Belgian grew up supporting Liverpool, and even fantasised about playing for them when he was a youngster starting his career in football.

Speaking in a viral clip during his time at Genk, a young De Bruyne said: “My favourite team is Liverpool FC and my favourite player is Michael Owen. I’d like to play there.”

The iconic midfielder later reinforced his childhood admiration for Liverpool in an interview with the Match of the Day magazine back in 2019.

He said: “I was a Liverpool fan. My family that live in England were all Liverpool supporters so I was, too. I loved Michael Owen because I was really small like him and quick, too.

“I compared myself to him at the time. I liked [Zinedine] Zidane and Ronaldinho too – those really skilful players.”

In another interview with Sky Sports in the same year, De Bruyne admitted that he ‘loved’ Anfield and praised Liverpool fans for the atmosphere they created during matches.

He said: “I like Anfield, I like it a lot. I love people being on you, being noisy, that is what it’s all about. I love the passion of football.”

Although Liverpool journalists James Pearce and Ian Doyle have since played down reports suggesting that Liverpool have already made an offer to De Bruyne, the door for he 33-year-old moving to Anfield appears to be open.
