Liverpool has made an offer to sign departing Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, according to reports in Italy.

Journalist Gianluca DiMarzio states Napoli is keen on landing the 33-year-old and is “seriously trying” to bring De Bruyne to the Serie A. The Belgian’s contract is set to expire at the Etihad this summer, bringing an end to his 10-year stay in Manchester.

That was not a mutual decision, and De Bruyne has already expressed his frustration at City letting him go. “You have to accept people taking decisions. I told them also that I still think I had a lot to give,” he said last month. “Obviously I know I’m not 25 anymore but I feel like I’m doing my job.

“It came as a bit of a shock. I’m open for anything [including staying in the Premier League]. I have to look at the whole picture, sporting, the family, everything together, what makes the most sense for my family. I know I can play at a good level. I have to make that decision once I really know more [of the offers].

De Bruyne has been linked with moves to the USA and Saudi Arabia, while Aston Villa was recently credited with interest.

Reports in Belgium previously indicated that a shock move to Liverpool was even on the cards, a report backed up by DiMarzio, who states that De Bruyne “has an offer from Liverpool”.

The midfielder supported Liverpool as a child, but his affinity to City would prove a real hurdle to any possible transfer.

He’s not the only talented Premier League midfielder being linked with a move to Liverpool.

Morgan Rogers attracted headlines earlier this week with claims he is a target for Arne Slot. Fabrizio Romano initially claimed the former Middlesbrough man is on the Reds’ radar, a claim then backed up by Sky Sports.

Villa’s precarious financial situation could play into Liverpool’s hands, with the Daily Mail claiming the Villans must make “one significant sale before June 30 to ensure they stay in line with Premier League spending rules”.

Last summer, Douglas Luiz was sold in similar circumstances, while Villa needs to balance the booking after making five additions in January.

Rogers has enjoyed an impressive first full season in the Premier League and has scored eight goals and provided nine assists.
