Manchester United vs. Tottenham Hotspur: When and where will the Europa League final take place?

3 Min Read

Tottenham and Manchester United will face off in an all-English Europa League final in Bilbao, with a Champions League spot and the UEFA Super Cup on the line.

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have secured their spots in the 2025 UEFA Europa League final after convincing semifinal victories. Spurs advanced by defeating Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt with an aggregate score of 5-1, while United cruised past Athletic Club with a dominant 7-1 aggregate win.

With both semifinals concluded, an all-Premier League final is officially set to determine this season’s Europa League champion. Joining them in the European spotlight, Chelsea has reached the final of the UEFA Conference League, making it three English teams in contention for international silverware.

A Look at Recent Europa League History

For Tottenham Hotspur, this marks a rare deep run in the competition. The North London side has never won the Europa League (or its predecessor, the UEFA Cup) in the modern era, with their best recent showing coming in the 2012–13 season, where they reached the quarterfinals before being eliminated by FC Basel on penalties. Their last European title dates back to 1984, when they lifted the UEFA Cup.

Manchester United, on the other hand, have a richer recent history in the Europa League. The Red Devils won the tournament in the 2016–17 season under José Mourinho, defeating Ajax 2-0 in the final. They also reached the final in the 2020–21 campaign but fell short in a dramatic penalty shootout against Villarreal.

When and Where Is the Final?

The 2025 UEFA Europa League final is scheduled for Wednesday, May 21 at 3:00 PM (local time). The match will be held at the iconic San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao, Spain—home of Athletic Club, one of the semifinalists eliminated by United.

What’s at Stake?

Beyond the coveted trophy, the winner of the final will earn an automatic berth in the 2025–26 UEFA Champions League group stage. Additionally, the victor will get a chance to compete for another major honor: the UEFA Super Cup, where they’ll face the winner of this year’s Champions League final between Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.
