Manchester United have a big summer transfer window ahead of them.
Indeed, after a truly terrible season, United need to refresh their squad now more than ever before.
Luckily, United do have some targets in mind, and Matheus Cunha is a United target, while the Red Devils are also keen on Angel Gomes.
Of course, the big problem at United at the moment is in the attack.
Rasmus Hojlund has been poor this season, while Joshua Zirkzee has been a flop.
Luckily, the summer window is just around the corner, and United will be in the market for a striker.
Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Ben Jacobs has been discussing United’s search for a new centre-forward, and he says that Liam Delap is seen by the Red Devils as the most feasible signing for the club in that position this summer.
Manchester United view Liam Delap as most feasible striker signing
Jacobs shared what he knows about Delap.
Delap has been linked to United recently, and Ruben Amorim’s side see him as their top and most realistic target.
Delap is no stranger to life in Manchester having come up through the academy at Man City.
“Manchester United, despite reports around Victor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen, they view Liam Delap as their top and most feasible target, if you take Delap’s £30m and Cunha’s £62.5m it’s in United’s budget to do both. They don’t have the budget to do Cunha and Gyokeres or Cunha and Osimhen,” Jacobs said.
Manchester United signings from relegated clubs
Manchester United signing a player like Delap off the back of relegation with Ipswich Town does seem quite unbecoming for arguably the biggest club in England.
However, United shouldn’t turn their noses up at signing a player from a recently-relegated club.
Indeed, some top players have thrived at top clubs after relegations in recent years – Andy Robertson, Georginio Wijnaldum and James Maddison to name but a few.
United don’t often shop in this sort of market, but they have signed a few relegated players over the years.
Relegated players to sign for Man Utd | Year | Club signed from |
Roy Keane | 1993 | Nottingham Forest |
David Bellion | 2003 | Sunderland |
Alan Smith | 2004 | Leeds |
Tomasz Kuszczak | 2006 | West Brom |
Michael Owen | 2009 | Newcastle |
Roy Keane, of course, became a great for United after signing from Nottingham Forest.
Meanwhile, David Bellion was one of the fastest players around, even if he wasn’t amazing for the Red Devils.
Alan Smith was decent enough for United, but he suffered with a number of injury problems at Old Trafford, and while Michael Owen was past his best at this time, he still popped up with some big moments for United.
Delap could be the next recently-relegated player to join United, and, hopefully, he’ll be more of a Roy Keane than a David Bellion.
