‘One of the best I’ve seen’: Lukasz Fabianski says player Arsenal sold for just £10m was absolutely ‘unbelievable’

As one of the biggest football clubs in the world, Arsenal have had their fair share of superb players over the years.

Some of them, like Thierry Henry and Tony Adams, are bona fide Arsenal legends with statues outside the stadium.

Other players are more along the lines of ‘the streets won’t forget’, and others have gone on to excel elsewhere.

West Ham United goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has now spoken about one such player, who Arsenal sold for just £10million as he went on to win titles elsewhere.

Lukasz Fabianski hails former Arsenal goalkeepers Wojciech Szczesny and Jens Lehmann

Fabianski was among the latest guests to take part in the Seaman Says podcast, fronted by Arsenal legend David Seaman.

With two iconic goalkeepers both present in the same room, Seaman asked Fabianski about which other top keepers he has worked with.

Fabianski began by talking about Arsenal icon Jens Lehmann before moving onto Wojciech Szczesny.

“When I signed for Arsenal, Jens was still there. I spent one year with Jens, so I could see him from close, how he works.

“He’s focused and, oh my god, he was on a different level! You don’t see goalkeepers like that any more when it comes to, like, being on it.

“Then obviously working with Wojciech, I think his natural talent and ability is unbelievable, one of the best I’ve seen.

“He made it look easy sometimes in the way he was like, whatever the coach asked of him, he would just deliver, like ‘okay I got it’.

“His aura about him, from a very young age you could see that he has something in him, so Wojciech for sure.”

Fabianski then added West Ham teammate Alphonse Areola to the list, saying he has “crazy” physical abilities and can make “unbelievable” saves.

How Wojciech Szczesny fared at Arsenal

Szczesny joined Arsenal’s youth setup in 2006 from Legia Warsaw and made his first-team debut in September 2009.

He debuted in the third round of the League Cup, keeping a clean sheet in a 2–0 home win against West Bromwich Albion.

Szczesny went on to make 181 appearances for Arsenal, winning two FA Cups and a Community Shield.

Arsenal then sold him to Juventus for £10million in 2017, and he went on to win three Serie A titles, three Italian Cups and two Italian Supercups.

Szczesny is now with Barcelona and has won a Spanish Cup and a Spanish Supercup with the Blaugrana.

The 35-year-old goalkeeper has also won 84 caps for Poland.
