‘Pretty much agreed’: Arsenal should sign £50m player by the end of this month – journalist

Arsenal have fallen short this season in their quest for major silverware.

Indeed, Arsenal are out of the Champions League, while Liverpool are Premier League champions.

However, the great thing about football is that there’s always next season, and Arsenal are gearing up for a big summer transfer window.

Nico Williams is a strong Arsenal target, while Arsenal really want Alexander Isak too.

Martin Zubimendi is close to joining Arsenal as well, and according to Ben Jacobs, speaking on The Done Deal Show, this move could well be confirmed very soon.

According to the journalist, Martin Zubimendi could be an Arsenal player before the end of this month.

Martin Zubimendi set to sign for Arsenal very soon

Jacobs shared what he knows about the £50m midfielder.

The journalist says this move is pretty much agreed in principle, and that by the end of May, it should be official.

Indeed, according to Jacobs, everything is ready to go on this deal.

“Zubimendi, I’m told it is pretty much agreed in principle. I’d be surprised if May ends and we don’t hear that Zubimendi is an Arsenal player. Internally at Arsenal, they basically think that one is done. The caution around letting that slip is because Liverpool thought it was done as well,” Jacobs said.

“Until it’s signed, Arsenal are super cautious, but in terms of contract length, terms, payment around the clause and triggering the clause, all of that Arsenal feel is there and ready to go. It’s a case of saying ok let’s get this signed. I think we have a very high percentage chance of in the next few weeks Zubimendi being confirmed as an Arsenal player.”

Arsenal’s early summer signings

By the sounds of it, Zubimendi will be Arsenal’s first signing of the summer, and the Gunners do have a history of doing early business.

Early signings often suggest you were identified early as a top target by a club, while more panic buys are likely to happen closer to deadline day.

Arsenal do have a mixed history when it comes to getting early summer business though.

Year Arsenal’s first summer signing Fee
2024 David Raya £27m
2023 Kai Havertz £65m
2022 Marquinhos £3m
2021 Nuno Tavares £8m
2020 Pablo Mari £6m
2019 Gabriel Martinelli £6m
2018 Stephan Lichtsteiner Free
2017 Sead Kolasinac Free
2016 Granit Xhaka £30m
2015 Petr Cech £10m

Sometimes, Arsenal’s first signing of the summer is a great addition, David Raya, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli are all key players to this day.

On other occasions, these early signings don’t go to plan. Stephan Lichtsteiner wasn’t great for Arsenal, and while he is a legend, Petr Cech wasn’t amazing for the Gunners either.

Nuno Tavares is shining in Italy, but he was poor for Arsenal during his time at the Emirates.

Being Arsenal’s first signing of what is set to be a big summer comes with a lot of pressure, and Zubimendi needs to step up when he makes this move.
