Report: ‘Well-placed sources’ have good news for Arsenal as they battle to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle

3 Min Read

By all accounts, Arsenal would love to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United this summer.

Arsenal have set aside significant funds to sign a new number nine and they’ve brought in a new sporting director in Andrea Berta who has a history of executing big deals.

Berta signed several expensive strikers at Atletico Madrid and he’ll now be integral to Arsenal’s efforts to find an upgrade on Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.

Of course, signing Isak from Newcastle this summer could even prove to be Berta’s biggest challenge to date.

Eddie Howe’s side have zero interest in losing Isak and the club will be in a very strong position to avoid a departure if they qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Newcastle want to give Isak a new contract, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Arsenal will give up all hope.

Alexander Isak could be ‘open’ to Arsenal move

That being said, BBC Sport have now shared a report detailing that Isak would be keen on a move to London this summer.

Isak is Arsenal’s ‘dream’ target and he’s right at the top of Mikel Arteta’s wishlist — something that’s been known in football for some time.

But significantly from Arsenal’s point of view, the BBC claim that ‘well-placed sources’ have confirmed that Isak would be ‘open’ to moving to London.

Isak is said to have universal backing behind the scenes at Arsenal, which is understandable after his 23 Premier League goals this season.

However, the same report still believes that a deal to take Isak to Arsenal would be ‘unlikely’ this summer owing to how much the striker would cost.

No figure is mentioned by the BBC but Isak could perhaps cost north of £120m — a fee it’s hard to argue he’s not worth.

Andrea Berta might need to raise funds at Arsenal

Cost aside, Arsenal fans might be buoyed by the fact that Isak could be open to joining Arteta’s side this summer.

Perhaps Berta could still execute one or two significant sales to add to Arsenal’s transfer kitty.

Arsenal want to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad this summer, which will demand significant financial outlay.

And in addition to a striker, Berta also wants to add a left-winger to Arteta’s squad.

Arsenal have held talks with Nico Williams at Athletic Bilbao, but it’s hard to imagine that any side in world football could sign him, Zubimendi and Isak all in one summer.

Therefore, Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko could be more realistic for Arsenal, even if the club may still explore a move for Isak first.
