Ruben Amorim has broken his silence on Bruno Fernandes’ future amid growing speculation surrounding a potential record-breaking move to Saudi Arabia.
Al-Hilal have made the Manchester United captain one of their top targets, tabling a jaw-dropping three-year contract offer worth around £195 million—including bonuses—to tempt him away from Old Trafford.
That is according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who revealed on talkSPORT that a “series of meetings” have already taken place, including at least one remote meeting involving Fernandes himself and in-person discussions between his camp and Al-Hilal representatives.
The Saudi giants are pushing to wrap up marquee signings before the Club World Cup this summer, and Bruno Fernandes has been given less than two weeks to formally decide if he wants to begin negotiations.
Amid the uncertainty, Amorim has now offered his stance on Fernandes’ future.
Ruben Amorim on Bruno Fernandes’ future at Manchester United
Ruben Amorim has reaffirmed the club’s commitment to keeping hold of Bruno Fernandes, despite mounting interest from Saudi Arabia.
The Manchester United manager made it clear that Fernandes is not for sale, revealing that the club intends to build their summer project around the Portuguese midfielder.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Amorim said: “That is clear (to build a team around Bruno). It’s normal that a lot of clubs want players like Bruno. But Bruno is our captain and I will say it again.
“He’s a player that will stay. We will do everything for him to stay and that’s it. It’s nothing new. One club wants Bruno Fernandes but Bruno Fernandes is our player.”
Bruno Fernandes is an extremely important player for Manchester United
Manchester United’s season has been nothing short of disastrous, with the club sitting in 15th place on just 39 points.
Their exits from both the FA Cup and League Cup have only added to the misery, leaving the Europa League as their final hope for silverware and Champions League qualification.
But despite the club’s struggles, Bruno Fernandes has continued to perform, scoring 19 and assisting 18 in 52 games across all competitions.
And he has shown incredible consistency in his performances over the years. Since the start of the 2019/2020 season, Bruno Fernandes has more goal involvements, more goals, more assists, more shots, more shots on target and more key passes than any other midfielder in major European competitions.
Season | Goals | Assists |
2024/25 | 19 | 18 |
2023/24 | 15 | 13 |
2022/23 | 14 | 15 |
2021/22 | 10 | 14 |
2020/21 | 28 | 17 |
2019/20 | 12 | 8 |
The stats show exactly why so many clubs including Real Madrid are interested in signing Bruno Fernandes.
But Fernandes is Man United’s linchpin and losing him would only set the club further back.
