Jamie Carragher has now contradicted himself quite emphatically following an attack on Aston Villa fans in 2021.
The Sky Sports pundit delivered an emotional segment on Monday Night Football earlier this week after Trent Alexander-Arnold announced he will be leaving Liverpool in June, criticising those outside of Anfield for sharing their thoughts.
Many have defended the Liverpool No.66 – saying that he has won all there is to win at Anfield and is understandably keen on a new challenge, although those on Merseyside dislike this sentiment.
The man from Bootle said: “I am sick of reading about journalists and other people who have got no affiliation to Liverpool, telling Liverpool supporters how they should feel. They’re not Liverpool supporters.”

That is all well and good, but is also a direct contradiction of what Jamie Carragher opined after Aston Villa fans booed Jack Grealish back in December 2021.

After the England international returned to Villa Park with Manchester City in December 2021, he was met with boos, having only recently signed a new contract before leaving in a £100m move.
That did not sit right with the Villa Park faithful – who were stung by seeing an academy graduate and fan of the club leave just as Aston Villa were on the up – and they rightly made themselves heard.
Carragher – who has no affiliation to Aston Villa whatsoever – hit back at those boos, writing in the Telegraph: “It was shocking and difficult to understand… it is still hard to believe Grealish was treated as he was.”
Clearly, the 47-year-old does not remember these comments, or he would have surely thought twice before telling those outside of Liverpool not to speak on the topic of Alexander-Arnold.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has better reason than Jack Grealish did to leave
The argument for Grealish to have remained with Aston Villa is actually stronger than any reasoning for Alexander-Arnold staying at Liverpool.
As aforesaid, the England international has won everything with Liverpool, and at the age of 26, simply wants to push himself in a new environment.

In contrast, Aston Villa were embarking on an exciting period, which has now culminated in Unai Emery taking the Villans to the last eight of the UEFA Champions League.
Grealish has still been justified in his decision to leave, having won three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, but you can understand why Aston Villa fans were upset more than you can appreciate the Liverpool fanbase’s current emotions.
