Tottenham secured their place in the Europa League final with a 2-0 win over Bodo/Glimt on Thursday night—marking their first major European final appearance since the 2019 Champions League defeat to Liverpool.

Dominic Solanke opened the scoring in the 63rd minute before Pedro Porro sealed the victory with a stunning strike, putting the tie firmly out of reach for the Norwegian side.

Bar the one moment of stupidity from Cristian Romero in the first leg, the Argentine was excellent over the two legs and played a key role in helping the club reach the final of the tournament.

It was a rare high point for this Tottenham side, who celebrated both on and off the pitch at full-time. And after the match, Romero took to social media to send a message to the fans.

Cristian Romero’s message to the fans

The players understand just how significant it is to reach the final—especially in a season where their league form has fallen short of expectations.

Winning the Europa League will not only see them end their trophy drought but also book them a place in next season’s Champions League.

After the full-time whistle, Cristian Romero took to Instagram to share an emotional message with the fans, writing: “Great game from everyone, showing that we want to succeed.

“There have been many frustrations this season due to everything that happened, but we’re all here together, always fighting hard to finish on a high note.

“Now we’re in the Europa League final, and that’s what’s important. One more step, all together. We’re going to give it our all. See you in Bilbao”

Cristian Romero continues to be linked with Tottenham exit

Romero has established himself as a fan favourite at Tottenham since joining the club in 2021, initially on loan from Atalanta before making the move permanent.

Renowned for his aggressive style, exceptional timing in tackles, and uncompromising defending, Romero has been a transformative figure in Spurs’ backline.

Despite early injury setbacks, he has become a cornerstone of the defence and a key presence under multiple managers.

His influence has only grown under Ange Postecoglou, who handed him the vice-captaincy—a move that has brought out even more maturity and consistency in the Argentine’s performances. But that has not stopped him from being linked with a move away.

Romero has not shied away from criticising Daniel Levy over the club’s perceived lack of ambition.

That, coupled with his world-class ability, has led to growing speculation about his future.

Real Madrid were reportedly interested in him last summer, and now Romero is strongly linked with Atletico Madrid, with the La Liga heavyweights reportedly keen on signing him.

Tottenham’s Europa League campaign could prove decisive. Winning the competition—and securing a return to the Champions League—might influence Romero’s decision. But as it stands, he appears more likely to leave than stay.
