TBR Football can exclusively reveal that Chelsea remain in the market for a new left-sided forward this summer and have narrowed their shortlist to three standout targets, as they look to strengthen their attack under Enzo Maresca.
Jamie Bynoe-Gittens is one of the names under serious consideration, with sources indicating that Chelsea are in talks with Borussia Dortmund over a potential deal.
Recent reports have also suggested that Chelsea could use Carney Chukwuemeka as part of a deal to beat Arsenal to the winger’s signature.
Nico Williams is another player admired by Chelsea, but a move looks difficult amid strong interest from Arsenal and Liverpool. According to reports, Mikel Arteta considers Williams the perfect signing.
Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho is the third name on their radar, with Chelsea first showing their interest in Garnacho back in the January transfer window.
Chelsea are in contact with Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho
TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Chelsea have continued to track Garnacho closely and are still in touch with his representatives.
Manchester United are ready to sanction Garnacho’s exit, with a deal for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha close to completion.
United view Cunha as a direct replacement, and his arrival is expected to open the door for Garnacho’s departure.
The Argentine came close to leaving in January following frustrations under Ruben Amorim, with both Chelsea and Napoli holding talks to sign him at the time, but a deal was not done.
While Napoli remain keen, the asking price — believed to exceed £60million — may prove too steep for the Serie A side.
Atletico Madrid, however, are in a stronger position financially and are pushing hard to bring Garnacho back to La Liga. As previously revealed by TBR Football, Atletico Madrid are also interested in signing Antony, another Ruben Amorim outcast enjoying life away from Old Trafford.
Alejandro Garnacho frustrated at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim
Ruben Amorim’s start at Manchester United has been far from smooth, notably making bold calls by dropping Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho over disciplinary issues.
Garnacho, who joined United from Atletico Madrid’s academy in 2020, quickly rose through the ranks with standout performances in the FA Youth Cup before making his senior debut in April 2022.
He impressed in the 2023/24 season with ten goals and seven assists, and has continued to hit the mark with eleven goals and ten assists in 55 appearances this term.
Team | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Manchester United (Senior) | 141 | 26 | 22 |
Manchester United U21 | 16 | 5 | 2 |
Manchester United UEFA U19 | 7 | 2 | 1 |
Manchester United U18 | 31 | 16 | 7 |
Total | 195 | 49 | 32 |
Despite his talent, Garnacho’s future remains uncertain. Amorim reportedly clashed with both Rashford and Garnacho earlier in the season, leading to their temporary exclusion from the squad.
While the 20-year-old has since worked his way back in, doubts remain over his long-term future under Amorim, with the manager keen on selling him.
This appears part of a broader trend. Rashford, loaned to Aston Villa in January, has flourished, while Antony has rediscovered his form on loan at Real Betis.
A fresh start at Chelsea could be just what Garnacho needs to unlock his full potential.
