Former exec Brazzo shares how he paved Harry Kane’s road to Bayern Munich

The Bavarians secured the English superstar in their summer without a sporting director — but they had one when it all began.

When Tottenham Hotspur finally agreed to sell Harry Kane to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023, it was after weeks of negotiations and fast-moving public reports…all in a summer where Bayern were operating without a sporting director.

That’s because at the end of the 2022/23 season, the Bayern board moved to sack the people responsible for sacking the coach mid-season. Sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidžić and CEO Oliver Kahn both got the boot as soon as the season ended.

But — with Thomas Tuchel already in place as head coach at the time — talks around Harry Kane had already begun.

“That’s true,” Brazzo confirmed of his role in the action in his final few weeks in charge (in an interview published by Sport Bild and captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I had the first two discussions with Harry in our negotiations group. It was clear to us that this would be a major investment for FC Bayern.

“Harry is an exceptional player, a striker with whom you can win major trophies. I’m very pleased to see that he was able to help Bayern.”

It must feel good to see a project you worked on come to fruition like that — as much as there is surely frustration, too, about not being there at the finish line.
