Liverpool has just three more games left in Arne Slot’s first season at the helm, and then a potential summer of transfers can begin. Sporting director Richard Hughes is expected to be kept busy.
The most obvious areas for Liverpool to improve would appear to be left-back and number nine. However, other needs might emerge before the start of the next campaign. Trent Alexander-Arnold is leaving, and adding another right-back to share the load with Conor Bradley would seem sensible too.
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today. Two exciting names currently playing in Spain are being linked with moves to Merseyside.
Rodrygo (Real Madrid)
Linked with Liverpool in the past, Rodrygo, the Brazilian forward, could leave Real Madrid this summer in search of more regular game time. The Reds have once again been put in the equation to potentially sign him, with a valuation of around $112 million (£85 million) touted.
According to AS, Rodrygo is already considering his future after the arrival of Kylian Mbappe at the Bernabeu. Fitting in all the superstars that Carlo Ancelotti has is tough, and Rodrygo has been the one who has been most affected.
This weekend, though, it is reported that Arda Guler will be selected ahead of him in the Clasico against Barcelona. That latest blow is said to be a big reason for Rodrygo to really have something to think about ahead of the summer.
Liverpool.com says: If Luis Diaz were to leave, then Liverpool might need another option on the left flank. Before signing another wide player, however, a new number nine should be the priority, as good as Rodrygo clearly is.
Julian Alvarez (Atletico Madrid)
Given how difficult it will be for anyone to convince Newcastle United to sell Alexander Isak this summer, with the North East side insistent that the Swede will not be let go, alternatives might need to be sought for anyone eyeing him up.
Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, who only moved to Spain last summer when he left Manchester City in search of more minutes, has been put forward as one option for Liverpool. Again, though, Atletico is desperate to keep him.
According to Fichajes, Liverpool could offer Atletico Madrid a deal that would see Darwin Nunez heading the other way in part exchange. That would supposedly help bring the price down, with the Uruguayan expected to move on.
Liverpool.com says: Finding an upgrade on Nunez should be a major priority for Liverpool this summer. He really needs to move on for the good of his career, but the Reds can only allow that to happen with someone else coming in.
