It is not just goodbye, but a thank you for all the years spent together.

This Saturday’s match against Borussia Mönchengladbach will be Thomas Müller’s last home game as a Bayern Munich player. For nearly a decade, Müller has graced the Allianz Arena and Bayern fans with his astounding footballing intellect and an affable grin on his face, so to know it will be the last time is a sobering thought, to say the least.

But it should not be limited to being a tragic moment. This is not just goodbye but thank you. Board member for sport Max Eberl spoke of the emotional moment that will take place on Saturday, calling it a “special day.”

“It’s going to be very emotional for everyone involved,” Eberl said, via @iMiaSanMia. “You can’t really imagine that Thomas won’t be playing in the red and white shirt anymore. Thomas is relaxed, you don’t know what’s going on with him inside. But it’s going to be a very special day in the history of FC Bayern.”

Bayern will need to pull out all the stops to give Müller the kind of grand farewell a legend of his calibre deserves.
