Ruben Amorim has singled out a Manchester United player as ‘perfect’ following a strong display against Athletic Bilbao.
They came back from a goal down to win 4-1 on the night and 7-1 on aggregate to book their place in the Europa League final.
Mason Mount came off the bench to score a brace, while Casemiro and Hojlund were also on the scoresheet.
And the Manchester United boss praised the number seven after the game.
Ruben Amorim praises Mason Mount
Mount was the standout performer on the night, with the United midfielder playing a key role in his side’s turnaround victory.
The former Chelsea man started on the bench but completely changed the game after being introduced in the second half, bringing energy, control, and creativity to the midfield when it mattered most.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Ruben Amorim was full of praise for Mount and the qualities he brings to the pitch: “Mount is perfect for that position because he can be a midfielder, can run like a winger, can play with his back to the goal”.
“When you see that kind of guy, working hard every day, eating well, resting, ice bath, he does everything”.
Mason Mounts performance against Athletic Bilbao in numbers
Mount has struggled at Manchester United since moving from Chelsea in 2023 for around £55m.
Expectations were high from him, however, a combination of injuries and inconsistent form has severely limited his impact. Many have criticised Mount including Paul Scholes, who has called for him to be sold.
His debut season was marred by long injury layoffs, which disrupted any rhythm he was building, and he ended the campaign with minimal goal contributions and few standout performances.

This season, injuries have marred his season once again, with the player missing 23 games so far. As per reports, Mount has cost Man United £1.9m per game.
But under Ruben Amorim, he may have found his stride in recent games and the performance against Bilbao showed what he is capable of.
If Mount can remain fit, he can be a huge player for Manchester United next season.
