Arsenal look set to finish another season without a major trophy, having fallen short in both domestic and European competitions.
There was early optimism—especially after knocking out Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals—but the Gunners couldn’t maintain that momentum.
Outpaced by Liverpool in the Premier League title race and eliminated by PSG in the Champions League semi-finals earlier this week, it marks yet another campaign without silverware for Mikel Arteta.
With that disappointment still fresh, attention at Arsenal now turns to regrouping for next season.
A key part of that plan is reinforcing the squad while also ensuring their top performers remain committed to the club.
Arsenal begin contract talks with William Saliba amid interest from Real Madrid
TBR Football previously reported that Berta wants to extend contracts of three Arsenal players. One of them is William Saliba.
And now, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Arsenal have begun talks over a new contract with the French defender, even though his current deal runs until 2027.
As per the report, the negotiations are ongoing between Berta and Saliba, and while an offer has not been made as yet, one is expected to be made soon.
Saliba, described as ‘rapid’ by Kolo Toure, has attracted strong interest from Real Madrid ahead of the summer transfer window.
But the player is said to be happy at Arsenal where he has enjoyed a formidable partnership at the back with Gabriel Magalhaes.
Arsenal also working on extending Bukayo Saka’s contract
But Saliba isn’t the only crucial player the club wants to tie down. Bukayo Saka is another name on Berta’s list of priorities.
The Gunners are also working on a new deal with Bukayo Saka, another core member of the current squad.
The right-winger’s deal also runs until 2027, but given his central role in Arteta’s attack, the club wants to secure Saka on a long-term contract as well.
Arteta recently shared a positive update on Saka, suggesting that ‘everything is in the right place’ for him to sign a new deal. He said: “I think Bukayo has been very clear what his intention is as well. So I think everything is in the right place.”
By opening negotiations with both Saliba and Saka, Arsenal are showing strong intent going into next season.
Locking down two of their key players would provide much-needed stability and could be crucial in transforming potential into tangible success.
