Jeremie Frimpong has sparked fresh speculation over a potential move to Liverpool after fans spotted a cheeky Instagram comment suggesting he’s been “practicing Scouse”.
Liverpool are set to lose Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer, and while it’s unclear if the club will seek a direct right-back replacement, Frimpong has emerged as a leading candidate. Liverpool is said to be “well informed” on his situation and the $39 million (£30M) release clause structure.
The 24-year-old is reportedly open to leaving Bayer Leverkusen, with frequent links to Anfield fueling speculation. A move would make sense for Arne Slot’s squad, given Frimpong’s standout season in a title-winning team and the natural Dutch connection at Liverpool.
Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch and his girlfriend Cindy Peroti recently announced they are to become parents for the first time. Among the congratulatory comments was Frimpong with many Reds fans believing he is practicing his scouse. “Ryan laaaaa. Congratulations to you both.” said Frimpong along with a number of heart and heart eye emojis.
It is not the first time Frimpong has been seen mimicking a scouse accent. The right-back also greeted Gravenberch with the accent back in March. Frimpong was welcoming his Netherlands teammates at the national team camp when the Liverpool midfielder entered the room.
Greeting him with a smile and a handshake, Frimpong could be heard saying: “Alright la. You alright? You alright, la?” This was followed on by a surprisingly spot-on Merseyside accent.

After the video surface, one fan wrote: “”He’s our new RB isn’t he?” Another said: “Frimpong practicing his scouse accent for a summer move to Liverpool.” While a third added: “Get Frimpong to Liverpool ASAP, and a fourth said: “Jeremie Frimpong. The scouser in our team.”
Widely regarded as one of the top right-backs in Europe, 24-year-old Frimpong has been a key figure in Bayer Leverkusen’s success under Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso, playing a vital role in their Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal triumphs. Frimpong has featured primarily as a right wing-back this season, making 41 of his 47 appearances in that role, where he has contributed four goals and 12 assists. He has also filled in at right-back on four occasions and twice as a No. 10, showcasing his versatility.
A product of Manchester City’s academy, Frimpong made his senior breakthrough at Celtic before moving to Leverkusen in January 2021. Now a Dutch international with 10 caps, he could be tempted by a switch to Anfield, joining compatriots Gravenberch, and Cody Gakpo as well asLiverpool and Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk.
