Trent Alexander-Arnold has made the biggest decision of his career as he’s decided to leave Liverpool.

Alexander-Arnold is expected to sign for Real Madrid this summer as he looks to start a new chapter in La Liga.

Alexander-Arnold is a world-class player, and he should thrive in Madrid.

However, over the years, some top players have struggled when going abroad and have quickly returned home, case in point, Ian Rush.

Back in 1986, Rush left Liverpool to sign for Juventus, but within a year, he was back at Anfield as he struggled to settle.

A number of players have lived to regret leaving Liverpool. For example, Ryan Babel really regretted leaving Liverpool.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Rush has been discussing Alexander-Arnold’s move to Madrid, and he’s already spoken about the idea of the right-back coming back to Merseyside.

Rush spoke about the full-back’s move to the Bernabeu.

The Welshman warned Alexander-Arnold that he needs to hit the ground running in Madrid if he’s going to make it.

Meanwhile, Rush says that if Alexander-Arnold was to return to Liverpool, the fans would welcome him back with open arms.

“Yeah good luck to him, I went to Juventus, to tell you the truth it was mostly financially for me. I went there and realised the grass isn’t always greener.

“I’m sure he’ll be welcomed back to Liverpool if he ever does come back. He’s at that age there, 25, he’s took that decision to have a new chapter in his career.

“He’s going to a great club like Real Madrid, but the problem is when you go to a great club like Juventus or Real Madrid you need to hit the ground running because if you have a bad start the fans are straight onto you, so hopefully he has a good start.”

Players who re-signed for Liverpool

Rush is already discussing the idea of Alexander-Arnold re-signing for Liverpool, and that is a logical move if his time in Madrid doesn’t work out.

Liverpool don’t often re-sign former players as they try to leave the past behind.

Indeed, Michael Owen wanted to re-sign for Liverpool at one point, but the Reds didn’t do a deal.

However, over the years, there are a few players who’ve had two spells at Anfield.

Players who re-signed for Liverpool Year left Year re-signed
Ian Rush 1987 1988
Steve Staunton 1991 1998
Robbie Fowler 2001 2006
Craig Bellamy 2007 2011

Ian Rush is perhaps the most famous of these players, while Robbie Fowler and Craig Bellamy also had two spells at Anfield in recent memory.

Steve Staunton is another player who Liverpool re-signed, but the defender’s second spell at Anfield wasn’t all that noteworthy.

Who knows? Perhaps in a few years’ time we could see Alexander-Arnold donning the famous red shirt once again.
