Bad blood…
It seems inevitable that Bayern Munich and Florian Wirtz will eventually work together to consummate a deal, but getting Bayer Leverkusen — a club that is at least a little bitter with Bayern Munich at the moment — to agree to a deal could be a massive challenge.
Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg cautioned that even though there is a lot of optimism about the progress of developments between the player and Bayern Munich this week, cracking the but that is Bayer Leverkusen could be very difficult:
From FC Bayern’s point of view, they have long reached an agreement in principle with Florian #Wirtz — whether for a move this summer or in 2026. Wirtz would earn between €20–25 million per year on a five-year contract.
A move to Bayern has long been the clear plan for Wirtz and his family, should he push for a departure from Leverkusen, as revealed on our show Transfer Update months ago.
⚠️ However, there have still been no official negotiations between Bayern and Leverkusen. In addition, Wirtz is said not to have informed the club of his desire to leave. As of late Friday afternoon.
At some point, Bayer Leverkusen will need to turn the page on the Alonso/Wirtz Era. Just how soon the club wants to fully make that next step, though, remains to be seen.
