Manchester United fans may have been intrigued to see Sir Alex Ferguson at the PSG vs Arsenal game this week.
Alex Ferguson may no longer be a Manchester United employee, but he still has very close ties to the club, and to see him in Paris was interesting.
Rumours then began to emerge that Fergie met with Luis Campos ahead of the game in a hotel in Paris.
As you can imagine, the rumour mill then went into overdrive.
Manchester United are still restructuring behind the scenes, and after Dan Ashworth left the club last year, the Red Devils perhaps still need a new Sporting Director.
Many pondered if Campos could be Old Trafford-bound after this meeting. After all, Campos was linked with Manchester United recently.
However, according to Duncan Castles, speaking on The Transfers Podcast, this meeting was nothing to do with a potential role at Manchester United and was just a general chat about football.
Why Alex Ferguson met Luis Campos this week
Castles shared why Alex Ferguson met with Luis Campos this week.
According to the journalist, Ferguson met with Campos just to have a general chat about football rather than to discuss a move to Manchester United.
Campos and Ferguson are two great footballing minds, and it would’ve been interesting to be a fly on the wall in this conversation.
“Interestingly, and this is one of the things that prompted questions this week, Campos met Alex Ferguson in a Paris hotel ahead of the Champions League semi-final with discussions on social media that he was perhaps being lined up by United to come in and replace their cadre of Sporting Directors,” Castles said.
“My guarantee is that it had nothing to do with working at Manchester United. Ferguson, of course, has been sacked by Jim Ratcliffe this season, is no longer an employee.
“Apparently, the discussion was a general conversation about football. No talks about Campos moving to Manchester United.”
Luis Campos’ best signings
Luis Campos is hot property in football, and it’s easy to see why United fans were getting excited about this meeting.
Indeed, Campos is one of the great recruitment minds in the game today, and there’s a reason Campos was linked with Arsenal before the Gunners went for Andrea Berta.
A list of Campos’ best signings just goes to show why he’s considered a brilliant Sporting Director.

Unfortunately, United don’t appear to be on course to bring Campos to the club, but, should they ever wish to make this move, a strong relationship with Alex Ferguson certainly won’t harm the Red Devils’ chances.
Where United go post-Dan Ashworth remains to be seen, but it sounds as though Campos won’t be on his way to Old Trafford in the immediate future.
