In a recent interview with Football Insider, former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown stated that Tottenham Hotspur are facing stiff competition in the race to land Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen this summer. Brown said,
“Dean Huijsen is a top player and he’s got a lot more to come.
“He’s got all the ingredients to become a world-class player and he’s had a terrific season.
“There’s been a lot of talk about Real Madrid looking at him – they want to sign a new centre-back and he certainly fits that bill.
“But then you’ve got Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea all having a look at him.
“So as far as Tottenham’s interest goes, they might have to do some convincing.
“He would be perfect alongside Van de Ven in their defence.
“There’s no reason he wouldn’t join them if they can get into the Champions League, but you have to feel there are other clubs ahead of them.“
Huijsen’s Impressive Form In The Premier League
Huijsen is having a solid season at Bournemouth as he has put in a string of impressive performances for them on the defensive third of the pitch. The Spanish talent has participated in 33 matches for the Cherries during this campaign, scoring three goals and picking up one assist in multiple competitions.
The 20-year-old has been a good performer when defending inside his half and deserves credit for averaging 1.1 tackles, 1.7 interceptions and 5.9 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing possession after making 84.2% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).

Huijsen is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can play his way out from the back.
The Amsterdam-born youngster can use his powerful 1.97m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Tottenham.
We can expect Huijsen to add more bite and steel to the North London club’s backline in the long run. At 20, the Spanish talent has the potential to be a world-class defender someday. Therefore, he will be well worth the fight.
All in all, Tottenham would be wise to go all out to get Huijsen on board in this summer transfer window.
