Liverpool had a massive job on their hands last summer as they looked to replace Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp was a Liverpool legend who achieved unbelievable things with the Reds, and stepping into his shoes was a massive task for any manager.

Arne Slot has been brilliant since arriving at Liverpool, winning the league title in his very first season at Anfield.

However, Liverpool did consider a few other managers before hiring Arne Slot.

Xabi Alonso was linked to Liverpool last summer, while Ruben Amorim was an option for Liverpool at one point.

However, Liverpool decided against hiring Amorim, and speaking on the Walk On Podcast, James Pearce has shared some insight into why the Reds didn’t hire Amorim.

Why Liverpool didn’t hire Ruben Amorim

Pearce shared what he’s heard about why Amorim didn’t get the Liverpool job.

According to the journalist, Amorim didn’t get the Liverpool job because they thought his style of play didn’t suit the Reds and his brand of football was uninspiring and wouldn’t get the fans on side.

“One of the reasons he (Slot) got the job was with all of the models they have, they felt his brand of football was suited to the players already at Liverpool,” Pearce said.

“That was one of the reasons Ruben Amorim didn’t get the Liverpool job, they looked at his brand of football, two things, one, he played three at the back and was our squad set up to play three at the back, and it was an uninspiring brand of football that wouldn’t energise the fanbase.”

It’s fair to say Liverpool made the right call here.

Indeed, while Amorim was highly rated at Sporting, his flaws have very much been exposed since he’s arrived in the Premier League.

Amorim came to England back in November, and the stats since he’s taken charge of Manchester United compared to Arne Slot at Liverpool are laughable in a lot of ways.

Slot has transformed many Liverpool players, while a number of big names at United have gone backwards under Amorim.

Amorim will be hoping to improve next season, but he’s got a long way to go to be considered on the same sort of level as Arne Slot.

Liverpool continue to get the big calls right, and bringing in Slot has proven to be yet another genius decision from the Reds.
