What Arne Slot is now planning to do with Giorgi Mamardashvili when he arrives at Liverpool this summer

TBR Football can exclusively reveal what Liverpool plans to do with Giorgi Mamardashvili who is set to arrive at Anfield this summer.

Arne Slot is already mapping out his plans for the Georgian international. The Reds previously agreed terms with Valencia for Mamardashvili last year, but the deal was delayed with the 24-year-old remaining in La Liga for the season.

Widely regarded as one of the most talented young goalkeepers in world football, he was initially identified as a potential long-term replacement for Alisson Becker, amid interest from Saudi Arabia.

But the Liverpool manager has no plans of losing Alisson, who Slot thinks is the best goalkeeper in the world.

How Arne Slot plans to use Giorgi Mamardashvili at Liverpool

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Slot has no intention of parting ways with Alisson and sees him as his number one in goal.

Alisson is also happy to continue his journey with Liverpool. With Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah also committing to Liverpool, the club is building around a stable spine — and the Brazilian remains central to that.

TBR Football previously reported that Slot questioned whether to delay Mamardashvili’s arrival. But it is now stated that Liverpool view Mamardashvili as a high-profile backup rather than an immediate successor.

The decision to bring in Mamardashvili, therefore, is not with a view to an imminent change in the starting XI but to ensure elite cover in the goalkeeper position as Kelleher exits.

Current number two Caoimhin Kelleher is set to leave Liverpool, and it is believed that Mamardashvili will step in for the Irishman, as he will have to wait for his chance to become first-choice at Anfield.

Giorgi Mamardashvili tipped to become one of the top five goalkeepers in world football

Georgia’s assistant coach David Webb has backed Mamardashvili to become one of the top five goalkeepers in the world in the next few years.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, he said: “Giorgi is determined and tenacious. I think he will really embrace Liverpool, as both a club and a culture, and relish the challenge of replacing Alisson.

“I can see him becoming one of the top-five keepers in world football in the next few years. In fact, he’s already not far off.”

Mamardashvili, who stands at 6ft 6in, has been a standout performer in La Liga and is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young goalkeepers.

Although he endured a dip in form earlier this season, the Georgian bounced back impressively — most notably delivering a man-of-the-match display against Real Madrid last month, making eight saves including a crucial penalty stop.

He now has the chance to improve his game further under the mentorship of Alisson, who is widely seen as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
