Liverpool and Manchester City have been sporting rivals for years now.

Man City agreeing personal terms with Nicolo Savona gives Liverpool boost in Andrea Cambiaso raceWhat Andrea Cambiaso can do that Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Bradley cannot

From 2018 until 2025, both clubs have tried to upstage each other in the Premier League — with Manchester City winning six league titles and Liverpool winning two during the same period.

Arne Slot has managed to knock Pep Guardiola’s men off their perch as the Merseyside-based club are the best team in the land and will soon lift the coveted Premier League trophy.

However, as Manchester City plot their return to the top of the three again, the news about Trent-Alexander Arnold moving to Real Madrid would have delighted them as his exit could weaken them.

Liverpool are interested in signing Andrea Cambiaso to replace Alexander-Arnold but the Sky Blues’ interest in him has been a longstanding one — who is valued by Juventus at £54 million.

Man City agreeing personal terms with Nicolo Savona gives Liverpool boost in Andrea Cambiaso race

Manchester City enquired about Cambiaso in January to potentially come in as the long-term replacement for Kyle Walker, who is currently on loan at AC Milan.

In fact, Manchester City were set to bid for Cambiaso but the deal did not end up coming to fruition.

However, journalist Santi Aouna has revealed that City have now agreed personal terms to sign the Italian’s teammate at Juventus, Nicolo Savona.

Manchester City’s pursuit for Savona could suggest that they are no longer as interested as they were in signing Cambiaso anymore, giving Liverpool a free run at the chance to snap him up.

Juventus are ready to sell Cambiaso and replace him with Maxim de Cuyper in any case, which means the 25-year-old is set to be on the market.

While Liverpool believe in Conor Bradley as Alexander-Arnold’s successor, every club needs two right-backs at the very least and the former Genoa defender looks like one of the best across Europe.

What Andrea Cambiaso can do that Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Bradley cannot

The Premier League champions’ scouts would have been impressed by how technically gifted and tactically flexible Cambiaso is, considering he can also play as an inverted right-back.

But perhaps the reason why Cambiaso piqued both Liverpool and Manchester City’s interest is because he can play as a left-back.

This campaign alone, the versatile left-back has made 19 starts in all competition as a left-back.

If Liverpool do end up signing Cambiaso, he could prove to be a tactical weapon for Arne Slot, giving him the option of both on both flanks or even centrally.
