Bayern Munich could have an issue.

According to a report from kicker’s Georg Holzner (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich and Dayot Upamecano are in a bit of a weird spot.

The defender is being heavily pursued by Paris Saint-Germain and could face difficult talks with Bayern Munich regarding an extension — something that was once considered to be a formality:

As @kicker has learned from ‘several sources’, a Dayot Upamecano move to PSG is a possibility and cannot be ruled out. Bayern want to extend the defender’s contract. Talks took place several weeks ago, and at one point an extension seemed to be a mere formality, but negotiations have since stalled. The exorbitant salaries given to Musiala, Davies and Kimmich have had an effect on the talks with Upamecano – the defender now expects similar terms for himself. Upamecano’s situation complicates Bayern’s plans, since Dier will leave, Itō is injured and Kim is allowed to leave for a suitable offer. As of now, PSG have neither made an offer nor a concrete move for Upamecano.

Upamecano is likely considered to be a vital component to Bayern Munich’s plans for the future. Given the uncertainty regarding the rest of the current group of defenders, Bayern Munich might have to spend more than it wants to on the Frenchman.

The list of high-value contract extensions given out in recent months might have changed the game for Upamecano. The defender looks like he wants his just rewards as well…will Bayern Munich go out of their comfort zone for this deal?
