Vincent Kompany highlights the monumental impact Thomas Müller has had at Bayern Munich

This day was all about Thomas Müller and his 25 years at the club.

Sometimes poetry writes itself. Because how fitting is it that Thomas Müller is able to celebrate 25 years at Bayern Munich on the year of its’ 125th birthday?

Thomas Müller recently spoke about his time at Bayern to Bundesliga.com, dismissing serious notions of having been a significant influence of the club because he has “only” been at the club for (exactly) a fifth of its’ lifetime. It goes to show his unassuming nature that Müller does not believe his 25 years have fundamentally changed the very bedrock of Bayern.

And perhaps that is why head coach Vincent Kompany chose, after the 2-0 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach in which Müller celebrated his last home game at Bayern as a player, to highlight that perhaps even Müller does not understand the influence he has had at the club:

“It was a special evening. I’m obviously very happy that we’re German champions,” Kompany said, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “But I’m also thrilled when I see what Thomas Müller has done for this club. I don’t know if he fully understands the impact he’s had on people here. That will last forever.”

That it will. Even after he leaves, Thomas Müller is Bayern and Bayern is Thomas Müller. He has irrevocably changed the club for the better.
