Manchester City will already be planning their return to the top of the Premier League under Pep Guardiola next season.

Txiki Begiristain oversaw big investment in Man City’s playing squad in January, but significant changes are still expected in the summer too.

Hugo Viana is arriving as the club’s new sporting director and Guardiola’s squad is still in need of upgrades.

Of course, that is partly because of Kevin De Bruyne’s decision to leave City this summer.

De Bruyne won’t be signing for Liverpool despite any rumours, but he will still be leaving a significant hole in City’s squad when he departs in just over a month’s time.

By all accounts, City want to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen as the Belgian’s replacement, but that’s not the only addition Viana will be targeting.

As well as looking at those who will help City offensively, Guardiola also needs reinforcements in defence.

Kyle Walker has departed for Italy and John Stones could leave City in the summer as well, a long-term servant under Guardiola.

Perhaps as a result, City are interested in signing Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves, a left-back who has seriously impressed this season.

Wolves want to give Ait-Nouri a new contract but it currently seems as if the defender’s future is still up in the air somewhat.

And now in a potentially encouraging move for City, Ait-Nouri has decided to switch agents, something Fabrizio Romano shared on X.

The defender was previously represented by Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute agency, who still work with a number of Wolves stars.

And from the outside looking in, that would seem to signal that Ait-Nouri was at least considering what might lie ahead beyond Wolves.

Ait-Nouri has now signed with CAA Stellar who actually helped broker Omar Marmoush’s move to City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January.

Marmoush has been an immediate success in Manchester, and perhaps Ait-Nouri could now follow suit in the near future.

Of course, Guardiola has tended to opt for playing more physical presences at full-back recently — Josko Gvardiol and Matheus Nunes often play out wide despite it not being their favoured position.

But perhaps City’s interest in Ait-Nouri could signal another adaptation of Guardiola’s system, who never stops looking for new ways to win.

It should be mentioned that Liverpool are also interested in Ait-Nouri and there could be a considerable fight for his signature in the months to come.
