Andrea Berta should hijack Man City’s move to sign £57m ace who Arsenal star Timber knows very well – opinion

Arsenal fans will be hoping that Andrea Berta found it difficult to witness the Gunners handing Liverpool the Guard of Honour before drawing 2-2 at Anfield.

Considering the Italian played a key role in Atletico Madrid’s success over the years, it seems unlikely that he is not driven by a burning desire to make Arsenal winners again.

Andrea Berta could spend £300 million at Arsenal or even more as he realises the need to reshape Mikel Arteta’s squad to finally help get them over the line.

Berta helped Arsenal seal Martin Zubimendi’s agreement and it seems like he is not lacking any ambition whatsoever.

Arsenal should sign Man City target Tijjani Reijnders

The next player on the 57-year-old’s agenda for Arsenal should be Tijjani Reijnders.

The Telegraph have reported Manchester City’s interest in signing the Dutch international is “serious” and as they are set to submit a bid to sign him, AC Milan’s asking price is in excess of £57 million.

However, Reijnders would be the perfect fit for an Arsenal side who are lacking an offensive X-factor in the middle of the park.

For AC Milan as well, the 26-year-old operates as a left-sided central midfielder — with his tally of 15 goals and five assists in all competitions being proof of the Zwolle-born technician’s productivity.

While Declan Rice has impressed as a number eight, his best position remains as a number six while Reijnders could provides the perfect link between Arsenal’s midfield and attack — as he can similarly carry the ball at will while being an excellent dribbler and a superior passer in between the lines.

Furthermore, if Martin Odegaard continues to struggle next season, the Serie A winner could especially help the Norwegian out as he is a proven threat in the final third.

Jurrien Timber’s record alongside Tijjani Reinders for Netherlands

As for Manchester City’s interest in signing Reijnders, Arsenal could have the upper hand over them in a race for his signature due to being higher up in the Premier League table and outperforming them in Europe.

A fee over £57 million for a player who has not only impressed at club level but was one of the standout midfielders at the European Championship last year would be a bargain.

Jurrien Timber must be aware of how brilliant Reijnders is, having trained with him on numerous instances and played with him three times for the Netherlands.

The pair have played against quality sides like Germany, Hungary and Bosnia for the Dutch national team.

In these fixtures, Timber and Reijnders have won two games and drawn one and Arsenal could have a Dutch connection that would draw the envy of Manchester City and other sides if they pair them up together.
