Everton Are Hoping To Agree New Contract With Their Striker: What Should They Ideally Do?

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract situation is beginning to take on a definitive tone at Goodison Park. As Everton prepare to close a period with the move to their new stadium, several key decisions are beginning to weigh on the club’s management. Among them, the future of the England striker has become the central talking point among fans, management and media alike. With his contract about to expire and a number of players in the same situation, uncertainty is growing. Football Insider reports that the Merseyside outfit are under pressure to make a clear decision that will set the tone for this new chapter in their recent history. They are hoping to agree on a new contract with him.

Everton have a crossroads on the table. Calvert-Lewin, one of the team’s most recognisable names of the last decade, could leave for free in the summer. The new management, headed by the Friedkin Group, is trying to avoid that, although they are already scouring the market for a possible early solution.

Meanwhile, clubs such as Newcastle United and West Ham are keeping a close eye on every move. Eddie Howe is considering bringing in the striker at no cost, especially with the possibility of losing Callum Wilson. For the player, the option of leaving seems attractive after seasons marked by physical ups and downs and mixed results. Everton are not losing faith, but understand they cannot wait indefinitely. Moreover, the board has begun to evaluate alternatives such as Liam Delap, making it clear that patience is running out. The mood at the club is one of measured urgency, knowing that the market will not wait and that time is against all parties.

Calvert-Lewin brings physical strength, presence in the box and the ability to latch on to long balls, key to the direct style Everton have applied at various stages in recent years. His mobility, despite physical problems, is still useful when the team is looking for depth in the attacking role. He knows how to drag markers and create space for wingers, making him an attacking focal point when fit. In addition, the striker’s aerial play and ability to press high make him functional in both positional attacks and quick transitions, as long as his physical condition allows him to do so.

What should they do?

In my view, Everton should close the chapter on Calvert-Lewin if he does not agree to a renewal on more flexible terms. Gambling on such an injury-prone striker is a risk that has already cost points and money. The club nees freshness up front, someone to compete every week without having to keep an eye on medicals. Liam Delap seems a reasonable bet: young, hungry and with room to grow. Retaining Calvert-Lewin would only make sense if his commitment was total and his fitness reliable, something he has so far failed to sustain.
