Exclusive: Arsenal ready to offer new contract to £20m star even though he wants to leave

3 Min Read

Arsenal have indicated to Jakub Kiwior’s camp that they are willing to offer the centre-back a new contract, TBR Football can exclusively reveal.

Kiwior has been a bit-part player for most of the season at Arsenal, however, the Poland international has now enjoyed his longest run in Mikel Arteta’s starting eleven owing to Gabriel Magalhaes’ injury.

The 25-year-old coped remarkably well in some huge Champions League ties and Kiwior was praised against Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid in particular.

Of course, Kiwior has wanted to leave Arsenal for some time now — he appreciates the progress he’s made at the club but he also recognises that Gabriel is Arteta’s first choice.

However, Arsenal haven’t given up on persuading Kiwior to stay altogether.

Arsenal hope new contract will convince Jakub Kiwior to stay

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Arsenal are hoping to change Kiwior’s mind and are willing to offer a new contract on improved terms.

Arsenal are willing to up Kiwior’s salary to recognise the progress that the defender has made since his £20m move to the Emirates Stadium back in 2023.

However, it’s understood that Kiwior’s first team run has only heightened his determination to seek first team football elsewhere next season.

The Gunners have no plans to move on from their starting pair right now, which explains why Arsenal are in contract talks with William Saliba and Gabriel.

So essentially the situation remains unchanged — Arsenal are very happy with Kiwior, as they always have been.

But Arteta’s side also accept that the player has wanted a move back to Italy for more than 12 months — Arsenal have turned down multiple offers.

Jakub Kiwior’s asking price

In terms of interest in Kiwior, Juventus are pushing the hardest for the defender, and the Poland international can envisage a starting role in Turin.

But in addition to Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Napoli have all expressed interest too, a player who retains a strong reputation in Italy.

Clubs in Spain, France and Germany are also keen but as it stands, the former Spezia defender wants to return to Italy.

The one real bonus for Arsenal in terms of Kiwior potentially leaving would be the profit they could recoup.

As mentioned, Kiwior cost around £20m from Spezia but the Gunners are looking at a deal worth almost twice that amount should he move this summer.

Kiwior is impressing at Arsenal and that there is a belief that his recent performances have only underlined his value.
