Life After Bayern Munich: Max Eberl does not think Thomas Müller will retire yet…

Eberl doesn’t think Müller is going to hang up the boots for good just yet.

Only one match remains for Thomas Müller at Bayern Munich and his emotional farewell following the 2-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach at the Allianz Arena in the penultimate match week of the season became a reality that Bayern fans did not want to believe would ever come true. Thinking of a Bayern side without Thomas Müller in it simply does not make sense, but his time to start a new chapter will begin following this summer’s Club World Cup in the United States.

While it’s been known for over a month now that Bayern would not be offering Müller a contract extension, the scenes of Bayern’s title celebrations juxtaposed with Müller’s emotional thank you and farewell to the fans provided for moving occasion at the Allianz Arena. There’s the old adage that goes; “don’t be sad it’s over, be happy it happened,” but Bayern is saying goodbye to an absolute legend of the club and for German football as a whole.

As far as what’s next for the Raumdeuter, board member for sport Max Eberl is fully convinced that Müller’s next chapter, wherever it winds up being, will still be in a playing capacity. There are a number of different options for Bayern’s number 25 to pursue after this summer’s Club World Cup, but one of the opportunities was rumored to be in the capacity of punditry. However, Eberl, does not see Müller hanging up his playing boots just quite yet. “I don’t think he will retire now. I think he’ll still play,” he told Sky Sport (via @iMiaSanMia).

There’s certainly no doubt that, at some point, Müller will come back to Bayern as either a front office member, coach, or as some sort of ambassador. For now, though, there are a bevy of different options he can take. Former Germany national team teammate Robin Gosens has suggested he join him in Serie A at Fiorentina while there have also been rumors he could go to either the Saudi Pro League or the United States to play in the MLS. Other reports have suggested he might stay in Germany and play for a different club, but his unwavering commitment to FC Bayern makes the latter a lot harder to believe.
